Who Is Derek Gray?

Derek Gray the CEO of Team Pinnacle, born and raised in Los Angeles, CA.  He attended George Washington Preparatory High School where he played varsity basketball; while in school he was a member of the Young Black Scholars, a college preparatory program for high school students.  Mr. Gray continued his education at Los Angeles Trade Tech College to pursue a career in basketball and to focus more on his education.  After attending L.A.T.T.C. for two years, he became one of the Top 100 sophomores in the state of California, receiving his A.A. degree in Liberal Arts from Los Angeles Trade Technical College. He was accepted to Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA where Mr. Gray majored in Health and Physical Education and later received his B.A. degree in ’03.  During that time in between 2001 and 2007 he served as a youth counselor for the Gardena/ Carson YMCA.  In 2007 Mr. Gray received his M.A. degree in Child Adolescence Literacy from Loyola Marymount University.  Derek Gray has been an educator for over a decade as a Physical Education Instructor, taught 6th graders, and 7th and 8th grade Math Instructor at St. Bernadette Catholic School.  He also has a strong passion for coaching basketball.  He volunteered his time coaching at St. Bernadette Catholic School, YMCA, and Weingart YMCA in Los Angeles.  During 2001 till 2006 he coached basketball on the collegiate level at his alma mater, Los Angeles Trade Tech College. Currently Mr. Gray is the Head Assistant Coach at Junipero Serra High School in Garden, CA, for the girls’ basketball team since 2007.  During his tenure Mr. Gray has been a part of three consecutive CIF championships and consecutive state regional appearances.  Due to these accomplishments his players have been accepted in to Division 1 universities; such as Pepperdine, UNLV, Michigan State, Oregon Seattle U and several more.  Derek has spent a lot of time giving back to his community by participating in Thanksgiving Meals on Wheels program with the Omega Psi Phi Inc., delivers clothes to the homeless every Christmas and teaches his students their importance of volunteering in their community.
